What is electrical bonding, and why does it matter for pools?
Electrical bonding connects all the metal components around the pool, including steel reinforcing, metal fencing within 1.25 metres of the pool edge, and conductive fittings, to a common earth point. This prevents dangerous voltage differences from building up between surfaces that someone in or near the pool could come into contact with. It’s a legal requirement under the Australian wiring rules and has to be carried out by a licensed electrician.
What is Tariff 33, and how does it work for pool pumps?
Tariff 33 is an off-peak electricity tariff available in Queensland that supplies power during off-peak hours, typically overnight and during low-demand periods. Connecting a pool pump to Tariff 33 and pairing it with a time clock means the pump runs automatically during cheaper hours, which can meaningfully reduce running costs. The circuit connection and time clock installation can be handled as part of the same job.
