Brands We Use
Petrie has a mix of older homes and newer streets, so the electrical work covers a lot of ground. On Electrical handles everyday jobs like power points, lighting, ceiling fans, smoke alarms and appliance connections, as well as bigger work such as rewires, renovations, air conditioning, hot water systems, pool pump wiring and EV chargers.
Older homes often need a switchboard upgrade, replacing ceramic fuses and early-style boards with a modern board with safety switches. Newer homes often need additions, such as extra power points, new lighting, and ceiling fans. For any home, circuits that keep tripping and outlets that have stopped working can be identified and repaired.
Electrical Work Across Petrie’s Older and Newer Homes
We set the price of each job once we’ve seen the property in person, so it reflects what is actually there. The electrician books a time frame for the day, arrives within it and keeps customers updated along the way. What comes with every job:
- Pricing based on the job as seen on site
- Wiring that meets AS/NZS 3000
- Compliance paperwork supplied where the law calls for it
- One year of workmanship cover, plus manufacturer warranties on products
- A clean site when the electrician leaves

What Petrie Customers Say
Questions Petrie Residents Ask
Does a home with ceramic fuses need a new switchboard?
Ceramic fuses and old-style protection devices don’t provide the same level of safety as a modern board, so replacing it is commonly recommended. It also gives the home room for newer appliances, air conditioning and EV chargers.
How is the power handled while an old board is replaced?
Power to the property is off while the board is swapped, so the job is planned in advance around the household or any tenants. The aim is to keep that time as short as practical.
Can the switchboard be moved during an upgrade?
Yes. Relocation can be done at the same time, for example when a renovation changes the layout or the existing board is in an awkward spot. It is assessed on site because it depends on the existing wiring route.
Is a full rewire part of renovating an older Petrie home?
It depends on the condition of the existing wiring, which is checked at the property. Full rewires are included in the renovation work, and they are most practical before walls and ceilings are closed up.
Can lighting and data cabling be done for a small business in the town centre?
Yes. The commercial work covered includes office and restaurant lighting, small-scale fit-outs, and data cabling with racks.
